 The Plot (Must Read)
« Thread Started on Jun 24, 2008, 8:32pm »

It’s been twenty five years since Peter Pan first flew into the window of the Darling nursery. Wendy, Michael, John, and the Lost Boys have all grown and have children of their own. They are doctors, bankers, lawyers...most of all, they are grown-ups now. But there is a new generation of wide-eyed listeners, ready to hear the stories passed down from their parents. Some believe already. Others are not so certain. Whatever the case, it is clear that any chance of regaining the link to Neverland, in this generation, at least, lies with these youngest of newcomers.

In Neverland, Peter himself hasn’t changed a great deal. Since Wendy and the others left, he’s slowly but surely gathered himself a new band of Lost Boys. They’re much like the old group; mischievous, playful, and entirely devoted to Peter. And with Hook gone, they’ve had a lot of time to simply enjoy themselves. But a new threat is on the horizon. Television. It’s the most newfangled invention, and as children begin to flock to the movie theaters instead of the library, Peter and the Lost Boys have found themselves with some strange villains on their hands. Monsters, such as King Kong, villains, like vampires, and even self-proclaimed heroes, like the cowboy Charlie Steelhand, have all made appearances in Peter’s world, only to disappear again as children’s imaginations conjur up the newest heroes and demons.

There has also been the matter of war. It’s been almost ten years since the first world war ended, but the older children still remember the terror of hiding from the air raids, of not knowing whether loved ones would come home...While the youngest of the generation, thankfully, don’t have any memory of such things, the bitter taste of the conflict is still a dark shadow in the deepest corners of some young minds.

Peter Pan avoided London during the war, and for some time afterwards, not really because he understood it, or because he comprehended the danger, but because he was far more preoccupied with gathering together his new band of Lost Boys, as well as fighting the new foes that children’s imaginations had provided for him. But now that things have calmed down in England, Peter’s begun to look for answers as to where the newest creatures are coming from. Whether he remembers all of the names of those he once knew in London or not, he’s begun to venture outside of one nursery in particular - that of the Harington children - Wendy’s children. The stories are much like the old ones, something that Peter finds comforting in a time of changes like this. Time will only tell whether he will locate the children of John, Michael, and the once-Lost Boys as well.

Whatever the case, it is all likely to be, as Peter himself would say, a very big adventure...
